The Rector of “Dunarea de Jos” University of Galati, Professor Puiu-Lucian GEORGESCU, PhD, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Mr. Sanjeev Gupta, Executive Chairman of Liberty Steel Galati, with the purpose to collaborate to establish LIBERTY Galati Skills Academy. The document was also signed by the Romanian Prime Minister, Mr. Ludovic ORBAN.
The academy will encourage more young people, from top engineers to technical and operational specialists, to enter the steel industry to help develop more sustainable production methods.
LIBERTY Galati Skills Academy which will be a partnership with the “Dunarea de Jos” University of Galati, will stimulate more young people, from top engineers to technical and operational specialists to join the steel industry to help develop methods more sustainable production.
The Academy will aim to:
- Develop skills associated with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and help them to benefit from workplace experiences;- Empower young people to benefit from skills development likely to improve their prospects of employment;
- Develop the knowledge, confidence and self-esteem of young people to help them succeed in life.
“Dunarea de Jos” University of Galati will provide a dedicated team to support the Academy's programs, both teaching and auxiliary staff.
Liberty Steel Galati is the largest integrated steel plant in Romania, with a workforce of 7,600 people and a current production capacity of approximately 2 million tons of steel per year for customers in the field of construction, naval, oil and gas, as well as and that of wind energy production.
GREENSTEEL is steel obtained by melting scrap metal or melting direct reduced iron (DRI) produced from methane gas (transition to hydrogen). Scrap metal and / or DRI is melted in electric arc furnaces powered, where possible, by low-emission or renewable energy technologies to obtain high-quality steel products.
